Curcumin

Also known as: E100

Halal

A plant-derived yellow dye from turmeric root; halal.

Why?

Curcumin is the natural yellow-orange pigment extracted from turmeric root (Curcuma longa). It is used as a food coloring in mustards, cheeses, and processed snacks. Because it is sourced entirely from a plant, it carries no animal-derived or alcohol-related concerns.

Good to know

Watch for blended 'natural color' mixes where curcumin may be combined with other additives that do carry sourcing questions.
