Why?

Glycerin (E422) is used as a sweetener, humectant, and solvent across food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. It is commonly produced from vegetable oils (e.g. palm, soy) or synthetically, both of which are halal, but it can also be a byproduct of animal fat processing, including pork. Vegetable or synthetic glycerin is halal; animal-derived glycerin follows the same sourcing rules as other animal fats.

Good to know

'Vegetable glycerin' on a label removes the ambiguity.
