Ethanol (Food-Grade Alcohol)

Drinking alcohol used as a solvent in extracts and flavorings; scholars disagree on trace amounts.

Why?

Ethanol appears in food products mainly as a carrier solvent for flavor extracts (vanilla, almond, lemon) and in some fermented condiments. Views differ: some scholars hold that any intentionally added ethanol makes a product haram regardless of quantity, while others permit trace, non-intoxicating amounts that evaporate or are heavily diluted during cooking.
